Privacy Policy
Last updated: 11 August 2026
Pagecut is a reading-countdown app for book-to-screen adaptations, available (soon) on Android and iOS, with this website at pagecut-app.web.app as its home page. This policy covers both the app and the website. Questions any time: epg.bills@gmail.com.
The short version
- We don’t sell your data, and we collect as little as we can.
- “Get the book” links are affiliate links — the retailer or an affiliate network may set cookies and record that your click came from Pagecut so we can earn a commission. It never changes the price you pay.
- The app works without an account. Signing in is optional and only exists to sync your reading list across devices.
- The app shows ads (Google AdMob) and asks for your consent choices where required.
Affiliate links and monetisation
“Get the book” links in the app and on this site go directly to the retailer. One of them currently carries an affiliate reference:
- Bookshop.org (US and UK) — direct affiliate links that identify Pagecut as the referrer, so a purchase may earn us a commission. See the Bookshop.org privacy policy.
- Every other retailer we link to — including Amazon, Libro.fm, Kobo and Audible — receives an ordinary, untagged link. We earn nothing from those, and no affiliate network sits between you and the retailer.
If that changes we will name the network here before it goes live. We hold an account with Awin, but no advertiser is currently active through it, so no Awin link is served.
These parties act as independent controllers of the data they collect on their own services. We receive aggregate reporting (clicks, commissions) from them — not your identity.
What the app collects
- Without an account: your reading list, reading pace, format and genre preferences are stored on your device. The app fetches its catalogue (titles, covers, posters, release dates) from our backend (Google Firebase), which sees standard request data such as your IP address.
- With an optional account (Google or Apple sign-in): we store your account identifier, email address, and your synced reading data in Google Firebase (Firestore) so your list follows you across devices. Sign-in is never required to use the app.
- Notifications: if you enable them, reminders are scheduled on your device (for example release-day alerts). You can mute per-title or turn them off in system settings.
- Advertising: the app shows ads via Google AdMob. Depending on your consent choices, AdMob may process your device’s advertising ID to show personalised or non-personalised ads. In regions where it’s required (e.g. the EEA/UK), a consent dialog is shown before any personalised ads, and you can change your choice in the app. See how Google uses ad data.
What this website collects
- The site is hosted on Firebase Hosting (Google), which may log standard request data (IP address, user agent) for security and operations. See the Firebase privacy and security information.
- Fonts load from Google Fonts, which sees the request needed to serve them.
- No affiliate, advertising or analytics script runs on this site, and we set no first-party cookies here.
Legal bases (EEA/UK)
Where GDPR/UK GDPR applies: we rely on consent for personalised advertising and for optional accounts; on legitimate interests for operating the catalogue backend, affiliate attribution of links you choose to click, and fraud/abuse prevention; and on contract for providing sync to signed-in users.
Retention and deletion
- On-device data stays on your device and is removed when you uninstall the app.
- Synced account data is kept while your account exists. You can delete your account and synced data from within the app, or by emailing epg.bills@gmail.com — we’ll action it within 30 days.
- Affiliate networks and retailers retain click/attribution data under their own policies, typically for the length of the attribution window.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, to object to or restrict processing, and to withdraw consent at any time. Contact us at epg.bills@gmail.com and we’ll help. You can also complain to your local data-protection authority (in the UK, the ICO).
Children
Pagecut is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your region), and we don’t knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, we’ll update this page and the “last updated” date above.
